Best Feng Shui Advice
By Jessica Hoelzel
Some of the best feng shui advice I can give is to stay inspired. To be inspired means to be “in spirit”. When we don’t change our home environment on a regular basis, the energy becomes stagnant. Rather than filled with life force energy, it becomes void of it. I encourage you to live “in spirit”, to continuously be aware of how you can create space around you that fills you up.
A great resource for home inspiration is my friend Lisa’s blog, Inspire Chi. Check it out!

Your Bedroom Should Be First Priority
By Jessica Hoelzel
If you have a lot of rooms in your home that could use some rejuvenation, and aren’t sure where to start, I suggest starting with your bedroom. The energy in your bedroom is the closest energy to you, because it is the most personal space, and where you spend the most time (sleeping). What can you do in your bedroom to make it more of a space that supports you? Decluttering? Cleaning? A little design sprucing? When you pay it some loving attention, it will pay you back in nurturing dividends.

7. Pare down the knick-knacks. And stop yourself from buying any more. Plain and simple, knick-knacks are cluttery. Especially when spread around a room, on every shelf, tabletop or surface. If you have some precious items you like to keep on display because they lift your spirits, by all means honor them with a special place in your home. But if they are things you have collected over the years that are just there because they’re there, then they need to go.
Everything in your home should be loved, otherwise it’s not worth the space it’s taking up.
Having things you don’t love take up space in your home is like letting someone live rent-free in your home while you cook all their meals and pay the mortgage payment. Those things are creating a pull on your energy, draining you, and they’re never going to give you anything in return.
My rules for knick-knacks:
You’ve got to love it to keep it.
Even if it was a gift and you don’t love it, leave it.
Don’t buy knick-knacks for other people as gifts. Be mindful of what that person is going to DO with another THING.
Don’t buy things on impulse. Stop and ask yourself what it really is that you’re responding to about it. (Usually a feeling.) Do you NEED the THING to GET the FEELING?
Group collections together to display them attractively.
If you have a huge collection of things you adore and not enough room, store half of it so you can fully enjoy, then rotate your display after a while.
If you have collections of things that are worth money, sell them. Put the money towards debt, savings, retirement, a vacation, or donate it to charity to give love back to the world.
If things don’t have value to us, we don’t need to value them. The people we love and experiences that enrich us offer TRUE VALUE. We won’t be taking any stuff with us when we go. But we can leave knowing we lived our lives authentically.

6. Edit the photo frames you have displayed. To “edit” something can mean a few different things. Depending upon what’s happening with the frames you’ve accumulated over the years, choose from one of the following ways to “edit” what you’ve got, therefore making sure your display says what you want it to – narrates the story of your life, as you’d like to tell it.
Definition of editing #1: To collect, prepare or arrange
Having too many frames spread out around a room can look very cluttered. Gather them together in one place, and arrange them in a balanced way.
Definition of editing #2: To revise or correct
Do your frames match, with a common finish or color theme? If not, buy a set of new matching frames or replace a couple that are really clashing.
Definition of editing #3: To expunge or eliminate
Get rid of the photos that are tired, outdated or that make you cringe. Only keep the ones that create a warm spot in your heart. If you have too many, pick the best-of-the-best. If you have outdated ones, replace the photos with more recent ones in the same frames.

- Re-use old frames that don’t match by spray painting them to match.
- Donate the old frames you no longer need, so someone else can make use of them.
- Choose recycled material or sustainable wood for the new frames you buy.

Being Prepared
By Jessica Hoelzel
There isn’t a science to defining when we’re ready for feng shui advice, in my opinion. One doesn’t have to weigh various factors such as whether this room is presentable or whether that project is done before I show up at the door.
People might think they need to have things organized to perfection and beautiful interior design displayed before my eyes. But if the house has amazing feng shui, why would they need an appointment in the first place? For me to say, “Yep, this is good. Good feng shui. Goodbye now”?
No. It’s for me to assess the space – exactly how it is right now, this very moment – before you run around stashing papers in the hall closet, before you throw everything in the garage (hoping I won’t look there).
Not being emotionally ready is the true reason some people delay making that feng shui appointment, why they feel they aren’t prepared (yet). By not emotionally ready I mean they are fearful. Fearful of looking bad or of hearing bad news.
Fear is the opposite of confidence. When people back away from their fears, look at them objectively and release attachment to them, they can be in a place where feedback, food for thought and growth is welcome.
So, back away from those fears. Breath in and feel confident. “This is my house. This is me, right here right now. I’m ready to learn how I can enhance it. Today.”

Making Feng Shui Work for Your Work Life: Enhancing Wealth
By Jessica Hoelzel
Ten Ways to Enhance the Wealth Area of Your Office
#1 Just Add Water
In Feng Shui, water is recognized as a symbol of flow and movement – bringing things to us. Incorporating the element of water into your space, especially in the Wealth area, can bring you good fortune. Imagine a river winding through the land, a waterfall’s cascade, waves gently lapping or crashing on shore. These images represent water as active chi. You can use water in your space to cultivate the flow and movement of chi there as well. Water can get things moving. Water can help abundance flow in your direction.
The element of water also supports the element of wood, which resides in Wealth. Wood (trees, plants) need water to grow, so adding water will nurture the wood energy, symbolically.
Specific Ways to Boost the Element of Water:
Add a fountain. Make sure it is a sound pleasing to you, and that you take good care of it. A broken or neglected fountain will have a negative effect on your wealth.
Add something black or navy blue. These colors represent water, their dark tones associated with the depth of water.
Add art depicting water. Choose a lake, the ocean, a river, stream or waterfall, whatever speaks to you.
Add items associated with water, like fish or shells.
Create an aquarium, or have a simple fish bowl with live fish.
Add items with wavy or spiraling shapes. These shapes also represent flow and movement.

Office Feng Shui - Making Feng Shui Work for Your Work Life
By Jessica Hoelzel
Now that you’ve had the chance to dream, let’s put some of those exciting ideas into action. What’s the best way to set action in motion? To plan! You don’t have to create a spreadsheet or anything (although if you want to no one’s going to shame your for it!) but at least put some form to your ideas, so you can have a logical sequence to how to bring your dreams for you space to life.
I recommend placing the feng shui bagua, or “map” over your space before you launch in, so that you have an idea of what you will need for what area. For example, once you locate the Wealth or Career areas, you can choose colors and decorative accents appropriately, knowing the special elements and colors that support them. It will be especially helpful so you can discover if there are any missing pieces of the bagua, and correct for them.
Click https://www.fengshuishopper.com/product_cat_list.php?cid=28 for some books that show that bagua and discuss the details of it.
Here are some things to sketch out in your plan:
1. Are you doing it yourself or hiring professionals?
Feng Shui Consultant
Interior Designer
Painter
Handyperson
Cabinet Maker
Professional Organizer
2. What is your timeline?
3. Do you need to (get to!) go shopping?
Storage containers
Decorative accents
Feng Shui cures
(Jot some notes about ideas you have, of what you think you might want and need.)
Stay tuned – more to come on specific ways to enhance different areas of the bagua.

Office Feng Shui - Making Feng Shui Work for Your Work Life
By Jessica Hoelzel
You can apply feng shui in large and small ways, to enhance your work space and work life. You can do it all at once, or a little here and there as you have the time.
Before you dive in, though, you need to clear out all that clutter! The energy of clutter is distracting and draining. And you’ll need a fresh, clean slate to work from. Click http://day2dayfengshui.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html for my earlier blog post with good tips and tricks.
Next, you’ll need to reflect upon, and get clear about what you need and want from your space:
What do you want your space to look like?
How do you want it to feel?
How do you want it to nurture you?
In which areas do you need support?
Spend some time dreaming about your ideal space. Take some notes. Cut out some pictures of magazines. Put together some ideas and just let them brew. Click http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/home-offices/index.html for some lovely inspiration.
Whether you have a corner office suite, a cube or a tiny nook in the kitchen, you can enhance it and make it work for you. Click http://www.askthebuilder.com/341_Maximize_Small_Home_Office_Space.shtml for great small office solutions.
Ultimately, your office should be a place that calls to you, a place that you feel comfortable and confident in, and a place where you can thrive. Happy Dreaming!
